The data is interpolated, and the braking/throttle position inputs are not 100% accurate. There's nothing that beats a dedicated unit, though the iPhone (and other smartphones) are extremely capable and useful at the DE level. That being said, I think I will invest in an AIM Solo DL in the near future.

On the up side, support for a 5Hz GPS unit has been added, and hopefully that means the other metrics will update at 5Hz. I hope you all get the current version before 14.4 comes out because the author of the app has temporarily dropped TomTom GPS support due to Apple's licensing guidelines. The down side is that the data is only 1Hz. There were a few instances where the OBD data stream dropped out, and the subsequent data only contained what the phone/GPS dock itself could do. I had the opportunity to compare the lap times to a transponder this weekend. The gear number is calculated from engine RPM vs speed. Harry's lap timer only acquires the relevant ones. Harry's lap timer is compatible with the PLX Kiwi and takes throttle position, engine RPM, MAF, wheel speed, and some other less important metrics. ThanksThe manufacturer is PLX, sorry for the typo. And will this setup basically give me the same information as a Trackmate? I envision running Harry's Laptimer with my iphone (and maybe a 10hz external GPS sensor for maximum lap time accuracy) and a PDX Kiwi OBD adapter. I mean, can you obtain what gear you're in and overlay that onto your video (GoPro)?ĭoes the OBD II info upload into the Harry's Laptimer?

For the small investment ($6.50 for the App, $80 for Bluetooth GPS receiver, $40 for Bluetooth OBD2 adapter), it is excellent, though.

It would be really nice if it had a PC application for data analysis and offered predictive lap times. I use TrackMaster mainly because I have other friends using it and it allows me to view their laptimes while they are on track.ĪLapRecorderHD is a pretty complete package. HLT is nice, but I hated that I had to JailBreak my phone to use a QStar Bluetooth receiver.

I have experience with several smart phone lap timers: MaxQData (Windows Mobile), TrackMaster (Android), and Harry's Lap Timer (iPhone). The biggest problem is you have to use a 3rd party tool to overlay the data on the video when you export it from the phone. RPM, Throttle Position, Water Temp, Engine Load, G Forces, Gear Selected, Intake Temp, and more.Laptimes accurate within a few hundredths of my transponder.

  • Up to 1080P HD Video (I typically record in 720P).
  • I use it with and external 5Hz Bluetooth GPS receiver, a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter, window mount, and a HTC Sensation 4G phone.

It is the most complete package I have found. Trackmasters new live feature is AWESOME for chumpcar and lemons so you know where your car is ontrack in case something happens - very very cool love the results and it's cool to show family & friends with the track layout and speed overlaid on the video. It's cheap(ish) (<$150), super easy to use and helpful in the analysis.I do the same thing except with a contour HD. The video doesn't show it, but you can zoom in and compare lines, compare sector times and more. Here's a video comparing two autocross runs (watch fullscreen hi-res): That way, there's really nothing to setup. You can use that completely without a phone and then analyze your runs later on a notebook. I recently also bought a QStarz BT-Q1000EX GPS. I tried DashWare, but ended up liking RaceRener (2) better. So you can see where the fastest lap "gets away" from your current lap. RaceRender has a nice feature where the trackmap can show the current lap + the fastest lap. Trackmaster + External GPS + GoPro + RaceRender =
